Thirty years ago, a trading card series was released that would forever change the non-sport card industry.
The 1992 Marvel Masterpieces.
Because of the sheer popularity of this series, it took an unprecedented 350,000 boxes to quench the thirst of card collectors worldwide. Nothing like it had been seen before nor since.
This series would not have become the monumental success that it did, had artist Joe Jusko not produced 104 mind-boggling paintings! Joe literally set the standard for all the Marvel Masterpieces series that were to follow. Each of the 104 paintings have become iconic portrayals of the great Marvel characters, and these cards hold such a special place in the hearts of collectors of all ages—many of whom were young, single-digit or teen-aged fans at the time of the series release.
It goes without saying that a large art book which highlights the amazing work Joe created was long overdue. The art needed to be presented at a larger-than-trading-card size. That’s exactly what you will find in Joe Jusko’s Art of the 1992 Marvel Masterpieces, a new deluxe, 8.5” x 11”, 300-page, hardcover volume from FPG.
This celebratory book includes all 104 of the paintings Joe produced for the original release. It also details the history of the series: how it came to be and the magnitude of attention that it received through numerous promotions. And finally, presented for the first time are Joe’s original pencil sketches for each of the 104 trading card paintings!
This is a book that we have planned to publish for a very long time. And, we are very grateful to be working alongside the good folks at Marvel Comics. This was a groundbreaking offering via Kickstarter; our first-of-many officially licensed Marvel projects we will bring directly to your door! It all starts with this title that celebrates the rich history of the 1992 Marvel Masterpieces!
Finally, a large art book that collects the incredible paintings that Bernie Wrightson spent two years creating!
It’s been almost 30 years since Bernie Wrightson let his imagination run wild on his two trading card series. For this once-in-a-lifetime creative endeavor, Bernie was given free rein to explore whatever ideas he wanted. Over a two-year period, he created 150 fantastic NEW paintings. Vivid images of swamp creatures, vampires, werewolves, and beasties of all types congregate throughout these works. It’s a spellbinding collection of all the things for which Bernie is best known.
These paintings have never been assembled in book form. They have never been seen at close to the actual size at which they were produced. All of the paintings have been lovingly photographed on museum-quality transparencies that were made when Bernie first completed the artwork in 1993 and 1994, so they will appear as fresh as they were the day that he sent them into the FPG offices.
This is a comprehensive hardcover collection and is a real trip through Bernie’s hair-raising body of work for FPG. Included is the original, insightful text that he wrote for each painting, as well as original documentation of the making of the two trading card series.
This is a book that is truly 30 years in the making and a celebration of Bernie Wrightson’s world!

The THICKER THAN BLOOD comics are a three-issue series, written by Simon Reed, penciled and inked by Mike Ploog and painted by Simon Bisley. The partnering of Mike and Simon made for a truly unique collaboration, and these comics were an ideal subject matter for them. This 72-page trade paperback collects the entire three-issue series originally released in 2008-2009.
THICKER THAN BLOOD is the tragic tale of two brothers on a trek across Scotland who find themselves faced with more than just a stroll through the Highlands.
After traveling for miles lost in the mist, they chance upon shelter, not knowing what lies before them. The darkness descends and the moon rises, an invitation for all manner of creatures. With that, the brothers, in the wrong place at the wrong time, have their lives changed forever. The human spirit is thicker than blood, and this is their story!
This version of the trade paperback collects all three issues of the published comics together, presented in the form of Mike Ploog’s black-and-white artwork. This is the first time Mike's pencils and ink work for this project has been published.
This version of the trade paperback collects all three issues of the published comics together, presented in the final full-color form of the combined artwork of Mike Ploog and Simon Bisley.
A 12" x 17" book that reproduces, at actual size, Mike Ploog & Simon Bisley's masterful work for the THICKER THAN BLOOD comic series, written by Simon Reed, penciled and inked by Mike Ploog and painted by Simon Bisley. The artwork was created in 2007 and 2008. The partnering of Mike and Simon made for a truly unique collaboration, and these comics were an ideal subject matter for them.
Each stunning page is published at full size for all to behold. This is an “original-art-sized edition” unlike any before it. Not only does the book reproduce the art at the original size it was created; it also represents the work of TWO artists, not just one. And, further, it covers the mediums of both black-and-white line and full-color paint, presented side by side. We thought fans of Mike and fans of Simon would genuinely appreciate viewing their art in this format.
As you will see, both artists brought something very special to THICKER THAN BLOOD. Studying each page will give you a view of two artists injecting a lot of energy into each other’s work.
Full advantage of this large format was taken by reproducing Mike’s graphic pen and ink pages on the left-hand page and Simon’s richly painted artwork on the right-hand page. So, each and every cover and interior page can be compared and enjoyed in both mediums; one right next to the other!
Together, Ploog and Bisley created 136 interior pages and 12 covers. In actuality, this book contains six complete comics; three by Mike and three by Simon. Whether you are a fan of Mike Ploog or of Simon Bisley, OR OF BOTH, we think you will really enjoy the THICKER THAN BLOOD: Collected Artwork Edition.
Also available in a signed and numbered edition with a variant cover limited to 175 copies.
